Exploring your audience with Audience Explorer

Audience Explorer lets you build targeting criteria and instantly see estimated audience sizes, demographic breakdowns, and segment compositions before you launch a campaign.

Audience Explorer is a research tool that proxies the LinkedIn audience insights API. Use it to validate targeting ideas, compare audience sizes, and understand the demographic makeup of any targeting combination before committing budget.

Building a targeting query

Open Audience Explorer from the sidebar and select your connected LinkedIn ad account. Use the Visual Query Builder to add include and exclude criteria across dimensions such as job function, seniority, industry, company size, and location. Each facet supports both include and exclude logic. As you add criteria, the estimated audience size updates automatically.

  • Start with broad criteria and narrow down rather than building a highly specific audience from the start.
  • Location is required for most LinkedIn audience size estimates to return a result.
  • Company size and seniority combinations tend to have the most predictable audience size effects.
  • Exclude criteria are useful for removing non-ICP segments such as students or very small companies.
  • You can save a targeting template and reuse it across Audience Explorer, Media Planning, and Ads Composer.

Reading the breakdown charts

After running a query, Revenue Proven displays the total estimated audience size and a set of breakdown charts. Each chart shows the distribution of your audience across a demographic dimension such as job title, industry, or years of experience. These charts help you spot unintended concentrations in your targeting, for example if 60 percent of your audience is in a single industry you did not intend to prioritise.

Next steps

Once you are happy with a targeting set, save it as a template and take it into Media Planning to build a budget forecast.
